The Denver City Council may adopt new rules governing the use of electric scooters, especially their presence on sidewalks and bike lanes. Sponsored by Council members Paul Kashmann and Mary Beth Susman, the new ordinance would authorize electric scooters on bike lanes and not on sidewalks, unless other options are not available. The current law considers scooters toys, allowing their use on sidewalks. The electric versions have the potential to be dangerous to pedestrians. The Colorado state legislature may also address the issue on a statewide basis in the session beginning in January.
